What calories on menus have now shown us as consumers?
Have you noticed on the menu of your favourite takeaway that you can now see the calories in each meal?
Restaurants, cafes, and takeaways with more than 250 staff must publish how many calories are in meals, on their menus, websites and on delivery platforms. This new rule is part of the government’s attempt to tackle obesity by helping people make healthier choices.
It is estimated that overweight and obesity related conditions across the UK cost the NHS £6.1 billion each year. Almost two-thirds (63%) of adults in England are overweight or living with obesity – and 1 in 3 children leave primary school overweight or obese.
So, what are the healthiest meats? Here are our top 3 picks that we’re sure you and your family will love!
- Sirloin steak – Our 45 Day Aged Rolled Sirloin Joint is both lean and flavourful and is full of protein! Top-round cuts are less fatty than other cuts of beef, so you’ll have more flavour without overloading amounts of fat!
- Chicken thigh – Are you looking for a healthier meat option to use in your casseroles or curries? Our Bulk Pack of Boneless Chicken Thighs would be ideal. A nutritious diet can consist of all parts of the chicken, but chicken thighs have a nutrient-dense mix of unsaturated fatty acids plus vitamins and minerals such as iron.
- Pork chop – Pork tenderloin is a great source of lean protein that’s easy to sway out of your normal chicken dinners. Our Yorkshire Outdoor Pork Tenderloin comes from the full pork loin and is perfect for cubing and using in slow pots and when sliced crosswise (like a loaf of French bread), the resulting medallions also may be sautéed.
Here at Sykes House Farm, we only provide top quality fresh meat and poultry and take great pride in knowing exactly where our produce comes from.
